SIDE CROW | PARSVA BAKASANA
Side Crow is one of many playful additions in our Journey Into Power sequencing. It is an arm balance pose that can be offered while in twisted utkatasana (chair) pose. Described below are a few ways to get into the pose or advance it for more arm balance play.
While in utkatasana twisting on the right, place the palms of your hands firmly on the ground to the right. Take your hands shoulder width distance apart bending at your elbows like chaturanga arms, drawing your shoulder blades onto your upper back and lift up into your core. As you anchor into your palms, keep your knees glued together and place your outer right knee/lower thigh onto your upper left arm or elbow area. From here, bring your weight into your hands as you pull your core in and up coming to the tips of your feet, lifting your hips up and looking 8-12 inches forward on the ground. Begin to lean forward to balance your torso on your upper arm, all the while hugging into your midline. Soon you'll take flight.
Use your entire right thigh as a 'shelf' with your left elbow at your right knee and your right elbow at your right hip. To advance, stretch your top leg up and out behind you or pike both legs out straight to the side. Repeat on the left side!
